MECO Robotics empowers underserved students in East Orlando by providing a safe, equitable, and engaging environment where they can explore robotics while creating lasting relationships.

We are dedicated to nurturing curiosity, resilience, confidence, and collaboration, enabling students to experience growth through both their successes and challenges.

We launch future leaders who excel personally and make a positive impact in their communities.

Access and Opportunity

We reduce barriers to participation. Students are given access to tools, mentorship, and hands-on engineering experiences they may not otherwise have.

This includes:

Open entry with no prior experience required
Structured training to build foundational skills
A team environment where students are expected to contribute and grow

A safe and equitable environment is built through consistency. Students are supported, challenged, and held to clear expectations from the moment they join.

Learning Through Real Work

Students learn by building systems that must work. At MECO, learning is tied to real outcomes, not isolated exercises.

Through participation in the FIRST Robotics Competition and related programs, students:

Design, manufacture, and program functional robots
Solve problems under time, resource, and performance constraints
Experience both failure and success as part of the engineering process

Growth comes from iteration. Students test ideas, encounter failure, and improve through structured feedback and collaboration.

Developing Transferable Skills

Technical work drives personal development. The skills built through robotics extend beyond engineering.

Students develop:

Resilience by working through failed designs and time pressure
Confidence by contributing to real systems and decisions
Collaboration through coordinated work across subteams
Ownership by being responsible for outcomes

These skills emerge through sustained involvement in complex, team-based projects.

Preparing Students to Lead

Leadership is defined by action, not title. Students are expected to take initiative and contribute beyond assigned tasks.

This includes:

Leading design and problem-solving efforts
Mentoring newer members
Representing the team through outreach and community engagement

Graduates leave with experience taking responsibility and adapting to real challenges. They are prepared to contribute in technical environments and in their communities.

Commitment to Outreach

Access to STEM opportunities is not evenly distributed. MECO Robotics brings hands-on robotics experiences directly into the community through demonstrations, workshops, and mentorship.

This early exposure builds confidence and creates pathways into programs like FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Robotics Competition.

Outreach also develops our students. Teaching and mentoring others builds communication, leadership, and ownership.
